Somalia Drought Emergency

Somalia is facing one of the worst droughts in history. A total of 7.7 million Somali women, men and children are estimated to require humanitarian

Assistance in 2022, Somalia has one of the highest numbers of IDPs in the world with 2.9 million people estimated to be internally displaced throughout the country (OCHA, 2022).

Four consecutive rainy seasons have failed, a climatic event not seen in at least 40 years. The 2022 March-May rainy season has not materialized and is likely to be the driest on record, devastating livelihoods and driving sharp increases in food, water, and nutrition insecurity.

Families are struggling for basic needs across the country. More than 45 per cent of the country is food insecure, including nearly 2.1 million who are suffering from severe food insecurity. For the first time since 2017, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has confirmed pockets of food insecurity in 28 districts, affecting more than 213,000 people.

Currently, 1.5 million children under age 5 and more than 250,000 pregnant and lactating women (PLW) are in need of nutrition support. A total of 6.4 million people lack access to safe water and sanitation, and 6.5 million people lack access to adequate healthcare. Poor sanitation and communicable diseases, including cholera and measles outbreaks, have resulted in 16 confirmed deaths and left thousands of people sick this year. Somalis are hungrier, sicker and more vulnerable than a year ago, pushing an ever-greater number of people into reliance on humanitarian assistance for survival. Humanitarian response is increasingly becoming the only lifeline to cope with the impact of drought.

African development Trust Appeals on the ground in Somalia providing crucial aid during this drought. The situation is worsening, and we need your help to make a difference. Thank for your support!

African Development Trust

Abu Hurairah (r.a.) reported Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) as saying: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim Vol. 4, Hadith 6264)

Give your sadaqah to the poor through African Development Trust

Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is a virtuous deed in Islam. In fact, it is considered as a proof of one’s Iman (faith).

Abu Malik al-Ashari (r.a.) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) said: “Cleanliness is half of faith. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale. SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fill up what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is a light. Charity is proof (of one’s faith). Endurance is a brightness and the Qur’an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.” (Muslim, 432)

Every child deserves a healthy start

Provide services to check healthcare and prescribe basic resources like food and medical.

We do medication and refer patients to a program just as they do any other specialty and improve health to people who are seeking medical care.

There are 58 million children, between the ages of 6 and 11, out of school globally today. Each and every one of these children is a stark reminder of the broken promise to achieve universal primary education by the original deadline of 2015. African Development Trust  works with communities and local governments to improve access to and the quality of education children receive.

Help those who need it the most

Today, there are more than 153 million orphans in the world. Of those children, 18 million have lost both parents. They range in age from infants to teenagers, all without a family to provide for their most basic needs. Every day 5760 more children become orphans. Children are orphaned for a wide range of reasons, including war, poverty, and death. They live halfway across the world and they live just down the street.
